Carl A Farber

August 24, 1926 — October 6, 2014

Carl A. Farber, 88, Altoona, passed away Monday at UPMC Altoona. He was the son of the late Earl and Ethel (Spearing) Farber. He married Mae J. Morgan on Feb. 19, 1949, in Altoona, and she preceded him in death on Jan. 21, 2006. Surviving are three daughters: Carol Hummel and husband, Terry, of Jacksonville, Fla., Irene Decker of Caldwell, Idaho, and Susan Smith of Roaring Spring; a son, Donald of St. Clair Shores, Mich.; seven grandchildren: Shawn Lehman, Tracy Lehman, Nichole Decker, Rebecca Farber, Alicia Smith, Cyndi Farber and Joshua Farber; four great-grandchildren: John Decker, Ciara Lehman, Ian Farber and Noah Hartman, plus two more on the way; and a sister, Grace Lombardi of Washington, N.C. He was preceded in death by five sisters: Mae Bush, Betty Stauffer, Edna Barwis, Ethel Hamel and Beverly Shoemaker. Carl was a 1944 graduate of Altoona High School. He served seven years in the U.S. Navy on the USS Ericsson and the USS John Hood and received the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon with one star and WWII Victory Ribbon. He retired in August 1991 from Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 354. He was a member of the Juniata United Methodist Church, formerly Wesley United Methodist. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, 2014, and from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata, Pastor Duane J. Coy officiating. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to UPMC Altoona Palliative Care or Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
