Howard Leonard Harber, 86, Altoona, passed away Sunday at Reading Hospital. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Josiah and Martha (Young) Harber. He married Wanda (Salsgiver) in Altoona on June 29th 1951. She preceded him in death on June 8th, 2012. Howard graduated from Scotland School for Veteran Children. He retired from the Altoona Police Department after 30 years of service. He was a member of the National Guard where he served as a Tank Commander, a Security Guard at Gable's Department Store, a member of Grace United Church of Christ where he served as an Elder, a faithful member of The Bible Study Group, and a member of the Bavarian Aide Society. Howard will be remembered as a skilled carpenter who maintained his own home and a father who enjoyed spending time with his children. He enjoyed fishing, watching westerns, and listening to country music. He is survived by five children and their families: William (Roxene), of Altoona, David (Eileen), of Reading, Linda Sisto (Fred), of Altoona, Susan (friend Clydene) of Bellwood, and Gail Plouse (Robert) of Altoona; twelve grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Family and friends will be received from 10am to 12 pm, Saturday, December 6, 2014, followed by a funeral service at 12 pm with Rev. John Bonebreaker, officiating. Interment at Grandview Cemetery.
