William P. Brown, 86, Altoona, passed away early Tuesday morning at Graystone Manor. Born in Tyrone, son of the late Elmer and Elizabeth Lois (Patterson) Brown. He married Elizabeth L. (Wesner) Brown, September 6, 1958 in Altoona, who preceded him in death on July 16, 2008. William is survived by a daughter: Rae Grace (Scott), of Altoona; three grandchildren: Scott Grace, Jr. (Jamie), Caitlin Grace (Brian Whittaker), and Jordan Grace; and his beloved dog, Brandy. He graduated from Tyrone High School, was a member of the First Church of God, and retired as an Altoona Area School District stock clerk after 24 years of Service. He enjoyed war movies and anything related to the military. William retired from the U.S. Army, Staff Sergeant, on September 1, 1966 after 20 years of service. He spent time in Japan, Germany, Korea, and Alaska. He received the WWII Victory Medal, Korean Service Medal, Occupation Medal, Japan, National Defense Service Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal. Family and friends will be received from 11 until the 1 PM funeral service, Thursday, January 29, at Mauk and Yates Funeral Home, Juniata, with Pastor Jerry Sneath officiating. Interment at Eastlawn Cemetery, Tyrone. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Humane Society of Somerset County, 204 Whitetail Road, Somerset, PA 15501.
