Janet S. Snyder

Janet S. Snyder, 87, Hollidaysburg, passed away early Monday morning at the Presbyterian Village at Hollidaysburg. She was born in Altoona, a daughter of the late Thomas M. and Dorothy (Foster) Shute. She married Donald G. Snyder, Sr. on May 12, 1950 in State College. Janet is survived by her husband, Donald; three children: Kathleen Brubaker and husband Jay of Gurnee, IL, Donald G. Snyder, Jr. and wife Sandy of Hollidaysburg, and David Snyder and wife Judith of Chambersburg; seven grandchildren: Joy McGlothin of Bakersfield, CA, Jonathan Brubaker of Dickinson, TX, Brian Snyder of Laughlintown, PA, Benjamin Snyder of Boxborough, MA, Hayley Ritchey of Altoona, Jeremiah Snyder of Chambersburg, and Julie Snyder of Teec Nos Pos, AZ; and four great-grandchildren: Rosalie Brubaker, Ellie Snyder, Barrett Snyder, and Miah Snyder. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Barry Snyder and a sister, Dorothy Mattas. Janet was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she sang in the church choir. She was a 1945 graduate of Altoona High School, a 1949 graduate of the Pennsylvania State University where she received a Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts, and a graduate of the Altoona Bible Institute. Janet was a leader of the Faithful Followers Group and volunteered as a literacy tutor. She was also a member of the Penn State Concert Blue Band, played in the Altoona Symphony, and loved music. A memorial service will be held at a later date. At the request of the family, a private burial was held. Interment at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the 2nd Lieutenant Barret Snyder Scholarship Fund at Grove City College or to Immanuel Mission, P.O. Box 1080, Teec Nos Pos, AZ 86514.
