Shirley Jean Reed, 79, Altoona, found peace and healing, going to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning. She departed peacefully, surrounded and comforted by family and loved ones as she endured through the final stages of cancer. She was born in Altoona, a daughter of the late Richard William and Helen (Shuma) Reed. Shirley is survived by a sister, Lois Barr and husband Clyde of Altoona; nieces and nephews: Rick Barr, Jeff Barr and wife Paula, Steve Barr and wife Shannon, and Denise Lego and husband Jeff; great nieces and nephews: Justin Barr and wife Kelly, Joshua Barr, Jeffrey Barr and wife Sarah, Alicia Lattieri and husband Pat, Pamela Laich and husband Canaan, Courtney and Brittanie Barr, and Ashley Lego; and great-great nieces and nephews: Eva Barr, Jada and Trenton Lattieri, and Jimi and Shayla Laich. Shirley graduated from Altoona High School in 1953 before working at Puritan until retirement. Shirley was a selfless woman, devoting much of her time and effort to her immediate family. She appreciated the simple pleasures of life, keeping up with current events while enjoying her favorite drink, Pepsi. She will be remembered most by friends and family for her renowned chocolate and peanut butter fudge. "Go in Peace Aunt Shirley! Have a batch of fudge ready for us in Heaven!" Friends will be received Sunday, March 29, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at Mauk and Yates Funeral Home, 719 N 4th Avenue, Juniata, and Monday, March 30, from 10 until the 11 AM funeral service with Pastor Elizabeth Hess officiating. Interment at Grandview Cemetery.
