Duane "Duanie" Kessler Maurer, II, 38, Altoona, died early Thursday morning at Valley View Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Altoona, son of Duane Kessler, I and Miriam Lee (Green) Maurer. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Danielle Renee Maurer, of Altoona; a cousin, Marissa N. Sinisi, who was as close as a sister; his cousins: Larry DeLeo, Sean A. Green, Roman A. DeLeo, and Robert R. Wolf; ;his friends: Chris Woytowiez and Andrew Wilkins, who were as close as brothers to him; his beloved "nieces", Sean's daughters, Aeriella and Rylee Green; his maternal aunts: Martha Champney, Doris (John) Della, and Rita Green; his extra special aunt Nancy (Green) Sinisi and his special Uncle Tony Sinisi, who went above and beyond what was expected to help him and his family during his long illness of glioblastoma brain cancer; his paternal Aunt Donna Walls and Uncles David (Jane), Darwin and Dwight (Susi) Maurer and their children. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, CP "Bob" and Evelyn (Pope) Green and Harold "Bunny" and Vivian (Carter) Maurer. Duane was a 1994 graduate of Altoona High School. He attended Penn State University and was a brilliant software engineer currently employed by Net Health Systems, Inc. of Altoona and Pittsburgh an avid online gamer. Friends will be received from 2 until the 6 PM funeral service, Saturday, April 4 at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Juniata. Inurnment of his cremains will be at Greenwood Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Duane K. Maurer, II's name to UPCI/UPMC Cancer Center Development, UPMC Cancer Pavilion, Suite 1B, 5150 Centre Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15232, with family name and address to be provided for notification of gift.
