Pearl A. Filer

June 11, 1919 — September 1, 2015

Pearl A. Filer, 96, Altoona, passed away late Tuesday evening at UPMC Altoona. She was born in Altoona, a daughter of the late Charles C. and Rose E. (Alexander) Kerstetter. She married Charles L. Filer, August 21, 1937 in Altoona, he preceded her in death on November 7, 2002. She is survived by three children: Ralph (Julie), of Altoona, Darlene Hollows (Tom), of Altoona, and Debra Johnsonbaugh (Kim Headdings), of Millersburg; five grandchildren: Ralph Jr., Julie, Sue, Paula, and Josh; 11 great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren and one on the way; and a sister, Genny Stahl. She was preceded in death by her son, Ronald Filer on February 12, 2013, two infant sons, and four siblings: Raymond, Mabel, and Woodrow Kerstetter, and Ina Marks. Pearl was a member of Juniata United Methodist and retired in 1981 from the Riverside Bakery. She was a wonderful mother and mother-in-law and loved the holidays because family would be there. She truly loved her grandchildren. She was an exceptional housekeeper and cook and we will especially miss her chocolate chip cookies. All the neighbors and dog walkers who passed by the Filer home were sure to get a "Hi" and wave if grandma was on the porch. She will be missed by all the birds, neighborhood cats, dogs, deer, etc. She fed them on a regular basis. Sparrow, the family dog, will surely miss her, you can't tell her she is in Heaven, but someday she will know. She was always grateful to anybody who helped her out, even in palliative care she would thank you for giving her ice chips. I hope her grandchildren and great grandchildren will follow her example and to do the best you can do at any job you are given and to be strong and grateful for the life you are given Mom touched everybody that she met and was the best mother in the world. Friends will be received, Friday, September 4, 2015, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., at Mauk and Yates Funeral Home, 719 N 4th Avenue, Juniata where a funeral service will be held, Saturday, September 5, 2015 at 1 p.m. with Pastor T. R. Hardic officiating. Interment at Grandview Cemetery.
