David E. Woodring, 80, formerly of Juniata, died Sunday morning at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home. He was born in Altoona, a son of the late Cecil and Phyllis (Kennedy) Woodring. He married Phyllis M. Sanchez on July 1, 1963, in Winchester VA. Surviving are his wife of more than 52 years; three sons: Edward Pfahler (Betsy), in Texas, Ronald Pfahler (Ruth), of Altoona, Philip Pfahler, of Altoona; and 12 grandchildren, including William Snyder who was raised in the home. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kim Woodring Snyder, four brothers: Robert, William, Jess, and John; and one sister, Patricia Refner. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. He graduated from Altoona High School, class of 1953. David served in the U.S. Army from 1960-1969 with two tours of duty in Vietnam where he received the Army Commendation Medal with V Device and one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Combat Infantryman Badge. He also served a tour in Germany. Upon his discharge on June 13, 1969 he had attained the rank of Staff Sgt. E-6. David retired as a carrier for the Altoona Post Office. He was a member of the Bavarian Aid Society and the American Legion. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, October 8, 2015, at Mauk and Yates Funeral Home, Inc., where a Vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 9, 2015 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Committal at Calvary Cemetery.
