S. Winifred Smith

S. Winifred (Winnie) Smith, 92, of Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, formerly of 306 14th Avenue, Juniata, died Thursday at the home. She was born in Juniata, a daughter of the late James R. and Jennie (Samuels) Burkholder. She married Paul L. Smith June 26, 1942, in Winchester, VA. He died February 14, 1993. Winnie was a member of the former Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, Juniata, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Toledo, OH. She attended Keystone Elementary School in East Juniata and graduated from Altoona High School in 1942. She was preceded in death by two sons, Paul Clifford and Thomas Harold Smith; one grandson, one great grandson, and six brothers. Surviving are a special niece who was her caregiver, Bonnie Lombardi, and two grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and a number of nieces, and nephews. Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, October 12, 2015, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., Juniata, where a Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. with Rev. Evelyn Madison officiating. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions would be appreciated in Winnie?s memory to the charity of your choice.
