Joseph P. (Pat) Wherry, 74, Altoona, died Saturday afternoon at home. He was born in Altoona, a son of the late William W. and Cleo (MacArthur) Wherry. He married Cheryl Barry on August 23, 1963, in Altoona. Surviving is his wife, Cheryl, of 52 years; a son, Jeff and wife Darla of Graham, NC; a daughter, Jennifer Holobinko and husband Newt, of Hagerstown, MD; grandchildren: Elliana and Ethan Holobinko of Hagerstown, Md, Kaylee Wherry and fiancé Cory Treese of Graham, NC, Nic Donnelly and wife Kate of Arlington, VA; two great granddaughters: Gwenyth and Margot; and four brothers: Robert and wife Mary in DE, Mike and wife Doris of NJ, Tim and wife Lori of Martinsburg, and Bruce and wife Dutchess in Texas; three sisters: Nancy Shaffer in NY, Sue Wherry in FL, Cyndee Caporuscio of Altoona; and many nieces and nephews. Pat was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He retired from Conrail as a shipper in February 2002. He was a graduate of Altoona High School and attended Penn State for two years. He was a coach of Teener Baseball and was a Master Landscaper and craftsman. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, October 26, 2015 at Mauk and Yates Funeral Home, Inc., where there will be an afternoon Prayer Vigil. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Monsignor Michael Servinsky, Celebrant. Committal will be at Alto Reste Park Cemetery.
