Francis "Bret" Kelly, 78, Altoona, passed away early Saturday morning at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Leo "Tom" and Catherine (Cowan) Kelly. He married Joanne Nazarok, January of 1963 in Philadelphia. In addition to his wife of 52 years, he is survived by two sons: Michael and wife Kathryne and Timothy, all of Altoona; two daughters: Shannan of Altoona and Erin Otten and husband Chris of FL; grandchildren, whom he adored: Maura, Kyra, Aidan, and Destiny; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by many family and friends who he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Joseph Kevin and James Anthony; and his beloved daughter, Lisa Anne. He attended Altoona High School and retired from the Altoona Post Office in 1991. Upon retirement, he renewed his joy for the arts. He became an avid painter, wood carver, and continued his love for gardening with a special interest in bonsai. He was also an avid reader. He attended Holy Rosary Catholic Church and was a member of the Juniata Civic Association. He will surely miss his Friday morning breakfast with longtime friends Harry, George, and "Kook". He will also miss his special "ladies" at his Monday evening art class. He shared his love of life and traveling with his loving wife and best friend, Joanne. Friends will be received, Wednesday, November 11, 2015 from 2 to 8 p.m. at Mauk and Yates Funeral Homes, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Juniata, where a vigil will be held. A mass will be held, Thursday, November 12, 2015 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 900 N 4th Street, Juniata at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Msgr. Robert C. Mazur officiating. Committal at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Altoona Area Pubic Library, or a charity of your choice.
