Bert R. Myers, 91, of Altoona, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at the Lutheran Home of Hollidaysburg following a brief illness.
He was born in Altoona on September 27th, 1924 son of the late George G. and Clara E. (Leader) Myers. Bert married Joan Elizabeth Abraham on June 13, 1946 in Cumberland, MD.
Surviving are his wife of more than 69 years; son Robert E. Myers and wife Beverley of Lewes, DE; daughter Dana L. Knouse and husband Randy of Altoona; step-granddaughter Renee’ Dickerson and husband John II; step-great grandchildren Mackenzie and John III of Middletown, DE plus many nieces and nephews.
Bert is preceded in death by his brothers: George Jr., Edward, Fred, and John; plus sisters, Marion Simpson and Edna Nagle.
He graduated from Altoona High School, class of 1942. Bert served in the Army Air Corps from 1943-1947 with two tours of duty that included a station in England during World War II. Following his discharge, he was employed at the Pennsylvania Electric Company for 42 years from July 1947 to June 1989, retiring from the Meter Department.
Bert was an avid animal lover who enjoyed bowling, gardening, Notre Dame football, breakfast with friends, and spending holidays with his family. He was a lifelong member of Faith United Church of Christ, serving as a deacon and elder for many years.
Visitation will be from 12 to 2pm on Friday, November 27, 2015 at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata. A service will follow with Pastor John Emig, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to Faith United Church of Christ, 711 7th Ave., Altoona PA.
