Naomi J. Rupe, 95, Altoona, went to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, Saturday at Graystone Manor.
She was born in Altoona, a daughter of the late Jan Joseph and Mary Augusta (Johnson) Ellstrom. She married Jack C. Rupe on February 22, 1947 at First Lutheran Church, Altoona. He preceded her in death on September 28, 2011.
Surviving are two daughters: Debby Rupe of Altoona and Betsy DeGeorge (Steve) in Tennessee; four grandchildren: Carrie Dhanarajan (Ashok), Debbie Harbin (Jefferson), Steven DeGeorge (Lauren), and Diane DeGeorge; four great grandsons; one great granddaughter; one brother, Ted Ellstrom, of Webster, NY and two brothers in law Don Rupe and Dean Rupe (Madeline) and many nieces and nephews.
Naomi was a 1938 graduate of Altoona High School and a graduate of the Altoona School of Commerce.
During her working years, Naomi worked as a teacher’s aide at the Altoona Area School District. Prior to that she worked as a secretary for insurance agent Tom Raugh and also had worked for Deininger & Rupe Dental Laboratory.
She was a member of Grace Fellowship Church and had been a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of Blair Christian Home, a leader of Pioneer Girls of Calvary Baptist Church and taught Sunday school at Calvary Baptist Church and First Lutheran Church.
She enjoyed painting and worked with both oils and watercolors.
Friends will be received Tuesday, December 1, 2015 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Grace Fellowship Church, 109 W. 14th Avenue, Juniata, where a funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday with Pastor Rod Lingenfelter officiating, assisted by Steven DeGeorge. Interment at Rose Hill Cemetery.
