Richard W. Latchford, 78, Graystone Court Hollidaysburg, formerly of Logan Township, died Sunday at UPMC Altoona.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late John R. W. and Violet (Weld) Latchford. He married Barbara Moore on June 20, 1964 in Bethany Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years; a son, LCDR Wesley Latchford USN (ret) and wife Robin of Virginia Beach, VA; a daughter, Lynette of Huntingdon, PA; two granddaughters: Margaret and Catherine of Virginia Beach, VA; and a brother, Durwin and wife Ginny of Altoona.
He was a life member of Logan Township United Fire Company and Rails to Trails of Central Pennsylvania, where he did trail maintenance. He had been a Red Cross Volunteer and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served on the property committee.
Known to his co-workers as “Beaver”, he retired from PPG Industries, Tipton in 1998. Previously he worked for automotive Supply Company.
He graduated from Cove High School, Martinsburg in 1955.
Rich was a Tin Can Sailor, having served in the USNR from 1957 to 1959 on board the destroyer Wallace L. Lind.
He enjoyed his family-children and grandchildren and Tia, his cat. His hobby was being a handyman; he could build and repair almost anything.
Friends will be received, Tuesday, February 2, 2016 from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Mauk and Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Juniata where a funeral service will be held, Wednesday, February 3, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Elizabeth Hess officiating. Interment at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
