Chester D. Rose, 97, Altoona, passed away Thursday afternoon at Golden Living Community – Hillview.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Chester Thomas and Helen (Stull) Rose.
He is survived by his wife, B. Bernice; three sons: Chester James Rose and wife Faye of Tampa, FL, David M. Rose and wife Cathy of Altoona, and Norman Hatfield and wife Charlotte of Richmond, VA; two step-sons: Charles Ebersole and wife Sharon of Altoona and John Ebersole and wife Janice of Charleston, SC; step-daughter: Peggy Ebersole of Altoona; 20 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elma Rose and a sister, June Smith.
Chester served during WWII and Korea in the Marine Corps, upon relief from active duty, he held the rank of Private First Class.
Chester was a member of the Juniata United Methodist Church, Mountain Lodge # 281, F. & A.M. and the Jaffa Shrine. He enjoyed traveling with his wife.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, April 17, 2016 and 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service, Monday, April 18, 2016, at Mauk and Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Altoona with Pastor T.R. Hardic, officiating. A Masonic Service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Interment at Grandview Cemetery.
