Kenneth J. Faith, Jr., 88, Altoona, went home to be with his Lord and Savior early Thursday morning.
He was born in Winter Park, FL, son of the late Kenneth J., Sr. and Katharine J. (Mier) Faith.
He is survived by two daughters: Lori F. Pastore and husband Jim of Altoona and Meredith L. Faith of Albuquerque, NM; daughter-in-law, Lynn Faith of Altoona; he was affectionately known as “Pappy Hippo” by his grandchildren: Alan Faith (Lindsey), Sean Faith, Deanna Fontaine (Jacob), Matthew Faith, Amie Koller (Eric), and Jimmy Pastore (Summer) and great grandchildren: Emily, Katelyn, and Jocelyn Koller and James Pastore, III; also, sister-in-law, Patty Faith of Altoona; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Gary A. Faith, a sister, Judith Kunkle, two brothers: William and Andrew Faith; and a special friend, Jackie Knepper.
Ken was a Navy Veteran, serving during World War II. After returning home to Juniata, he began selling Encyclopedia Britannica. He became a salesman for the General Foods Corporation and upon his retirement was involved with his nephews in several family business ventures, Faith Vending, Faith Amusements and East Coast Gun Sales.
He served many years as a Scoutmaster for Troup 41 – BSA and was a former Eagle Scout. He volunteered at Altoona Hospital and Station Medical Center. He was a devout Christian and was a member of Riggles Gap Bible Church and enjoyed singing in the choir. Faith was not just his last name, it was a way of life.Ken was a championship bowler, an avid golfer, a card shark, and loved to travel. His true passion was the outdoors and hunting. Known as “Kenny Bear” by his friends and hunting buddies, he bagged over 60 bears having collected all four color species (black, brown, blonde, & cinnamon). He was featured in several articles in the Altoona Mirror, Bear Hunting magazine, and Outdoor Times.
He will always be remembered by his quick wit, ability to tell the tallest tale with a straight face, his wonderful sense of humor, positive attitude, and outgoing personality. He will be greatly missed.
Friends will be received, Sunday, April 24, 2016 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Mauk and Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Altoona. A funeral service will be held Monday, April 25, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Riggles Gap Bible Church, 613 Lear Road, Altoona, 16601.
