Mrs. Lois Joan Cashman, 98, Lakemont, widow of Robert C. Cashman, passed away in her home under the compassionate care of Asera Hospice staff at 5:00 p.m., Thursday, outliving five younger siblings. Joan, as she was known, was first married to Milford Paul Nuse, now deceased and mother to six children: Richard P., Carole S. Rhodes (Gary), Patricia K. Daugherty (Don), Deborah L. Meese, and Laurel D. Macdonald (Duncan). She was preceded in death by her son, David A.
Nature, gardening, and bird watching were favorite pastimes for Joan and she passed on her interest in nature, state and national parts on to her offspring.
She had 13 grandchildren (one deceased), 21 great grandchildren (one deceased) and leaves most recently a great-great granddaughter.
Mrs. Cashman was an employee in the Altoona Hospital Dietary Department from 1955 to 1980. She was previously a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church and most recently attended the Abundant Life Church.
Joan had incredible stamina throughout her life, even at 95 years. She cooked, cleaned, and was very active. She exhibited such a strong will to live all the way to the end. Friends and family will remember her for her strength, integrity, honesty, and love of family.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, June 20, 2016 at Mauk and Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Altoona. Interment at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
