Joyce A. “Boo” Wertz, 72, Dysart, went home Tuesday to be with her Lord and Savior as she was prepared to enter into his loving arms.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late George S. and Anna May (MacArthur) Martin. On May 3, 1962, she married William C. Wertz at Fourth Lutheran Church, Altoona.
Surviving are her husband of 54 years; a daughter, Wendy L. Ratchford of Dysart; four sons: Kevin M. and wife, Susan, of Altoona, and William C. Jr. and wife, Julie, Donald E. and wife, Cindy, and Rob M. and wife, Nancy, all of Dysart; 12 grandchildren: Jenn, Chad, Cari, Donny, Shawn, Adam, Tyler, Brooke, Erica, Kirk, Lexie and Dylan; five great-grandchildren: Konnor, Paige, Evie, Gemma and Adeline; a sister, Dee Martin-Spallone and husband,Tom, of Juniata; a brother, George E. Martin and wife, Sandy, of Pittsburgh; her beloved dog, Gracie; and two cats.
She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Shawn Ratchford.
Joyce was a 1961 graduate of Altoona High School. She was a partner in Bill Wertz & Sons Inc. and was a homemaker.
She was a loving mother and grandmother and played many roles throughout her lifetime. She was a lunch lady, a Cub Scout leader and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls. She loved flowers and gardening. She always had exactly what one needed in her purse and believed in eating dessert first.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, 2016, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata, and from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service, Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016, at Juniata United Methodist Church, 808 N. 4th St., Altoona, Pastor T.R. Hardic officiating. Interment will be at Carson Valley Cemetery.
