Donald G. Snyder, Sr.

April 11, 1925 — October 3, 2016

Donald G. Snyder, Sr., 91, Hollidaysburg, passed away early Monday morning at Garvey Manor Nursing Home, Hollidaysburg.
 
He was born in Philadelphia, a son of the late Edwin Guy and Mary Maybelle (Heim) Snyder. He married the former Janet Mae Shute on May 12, 1950 in State College. She preceded him in death on March 23, 2015.
 
Donald is survived by three children: Kathleen Brubaker and husband Jay of Gurnee, IL, Dr. Donald G. Snyder, Jr. and wife Sandy of Hollidaysburg, and David Snyder and wife Judith of Chambersburg; seven grandchildren: Joy McGlothin of Bakersfield, CA, Jonathan Brubaker of Dickinson, TX, Brian Snyder of Hollidaysburg, Benjamin Snyder of Boxborough, MA, Hayley Ritchey of Dayton, OH, Jeremiah Snyder of Chambersburg, and Julie Snyder of Teec Nos Pos, AZ; and six great-grandchildren: Rosalie and Penelope Brubaker and Ellie, Barrett, Miah, and Steel Snyder.
 
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Barry Snyder and a sister, Muriel Burgess.
 
Following his 1943 graduation from Sunbury High School he served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps in China, Burma, and India during WWII. After the war he enrolled in the Pennsylvania State University, where he completed a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering in 1949. He then worked as a product engineer, retiring from North American Phillips in 1987. He was also a part-time instructor in electrical engineering classes at Penn State, Altoona.
 
He attended Calvary Baptist Church and was a member of the Faithful Followers.
 
He was a percussionist and enjoyed playing drum set, tympani, and xylophone in various musical ensembles. He also enjoyed traveling and visited every state in the United States and all of the Canadian provinces.
 
Friends are invited to a graveside service on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery. Interment will follow immediately.
 
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the 2nd Lieutenant Barret Snyder Scholarship Fund at Grove City College or to Immanuel Mission, P.O. Box 1080, Teec Nos Pos, AZ 86514.
