Effie Mae Salyards, 89, of Presbyterian Village, Hollidaysburg, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday.
She was born in Juniata, a daughter of the late Kenneth H., Sr. and Gertrude J. (Keith) Doutrich. She married William S. Salyards, Sr., August 27, 1946, in Juniata. He died March 22, 1985.
Mrs. Salyards is survived by three daughter, Vicky L. Zeoli, of Altoona, Gloria J. Riley, of Hollidaysburg, and Ruth J. Simpson, of Newry; a son, William S., Jr., of Newry, and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She attended Berean Baptist Church where she was a member of the Ladies Fellowship, the Christian Women’s Fellowship, and a volunteer in the nursery once a month. She was also a member of the Kiwanis Blair Golden K, the Duncansville Golden Agers, the Duncansville Senior Center, the Hollidaysburg Golden Agers, and the Cross Keys Senior Citizens. She also worked as a Retired Senior Volunteer through Blair Senior Services Adult Day Care and at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home Canteen.
Mrs. Salyards retired as an inspector from Puritan Sportswear and had worked on the Pennsylvania Railroad during World War 2.
Friends will be received from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, October 24, 2016, at Berean Baptist Church, Kunes Lane, Duncansville, where a Funeral Service will be held at 5 p.m. with Pastor Barry Fry officiating. Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., Juniata.
