Raymond H. Paul, Jr., 89, passed away Wednesday morning at Epworth Manor in Tyrone.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Raymond Herbert, Sr., and Margaret Jennifer (Rutherford) Paul. He married Grace Marie Paul on February 28, 1949 in Winchester, VA. She preceded him in death on August 9, 2012.
Raymond is survived by three children: Janet Bodnar (Charles) of Sinking Valley, Ronald Paul (Karen) of Stephens City, VA, and Sharon Monds of Richmond, VA; six grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Paul (Louise) of Sinking Valley.
He was preceded in death by three siblings: William and James Paul and Ruth Williams.
Raymond retired as a plumber/pipe fitter from Local Union 354. He was a member of the Shriners-Scottish Rite, Mountain Lodge #281 F&AM Masonic Lodge, the Altoona Rifle and Pistol Club, where he served as past president, a lifetime member of the Bavarian Aid Society, and served many years as a Tyrone Township Supervisor.
He was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. He served on the church council and was a past president.
He enjoyed bingo, Penn State and Steelers football and the Pittsburgh Pirates. He dedicated many years performing community service for the Sinking Valley area.
Raymond is a WWII veteran having served in the United States Navy.
Friends will be received, Sunday, October 30, 2016 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Altoona. Friends will also be received on Monday, October 31, 2016 from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church (Sinking Valley), 548 Stevens Hill Road, Tyrone, PA, 16686. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11 a.m. Pastor Karen Telyea officiating. Interment at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.
