John I. Pennabaker, Jr., “Skip”, 61, Altoona, passed away Wednesday evening at Mountain Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield.
He was born in Cleveland, OH, a son of the late John I., Sr. and Hattie A. (Byers) Pennabaker.
John is survived by four children: James D. “Jimmy” Pennabaker of Tyrone, Angela M. Chalifoux of Sumter, SC, Tiffany D. Wyant of Las Vegas, NV, and Ashley N. Pennabaker of Tyone; three grandchildren: Zachary J. and Alyssa R. Chalifoux of Sumter, SC and Aiden J. Pennabaker of Las Vegas, NV; two brothers: Dennis C. Pennabaker of Houtzdale and Mark C. Pennabaker of Everett; one sister, Mary E. Conrad of Ashville; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his former wife, Karen Pennabaker of Louisiana and his first wife, Carol Pennabaker of Tyrone.
Skip was a high school graduate and retired after 20 plus years of service as a laborer from Westvaco. He then worked for S&A Homes as an HVAC Specialist. He was a former member of Christ United Methodist Church, Tyrone.
He was a member of the Hookies Volunteer Fire Company where he worked as an EMT. He was also a member of the Bald Eagle Fire Hall.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting, camping, and cross stitch.
Friends will be received, Monday, November 14, 2016 from 9 until the 11 a.m. memorial service at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Altoona, 16601. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery, Altoona.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Skills of Central PA, 805 Chestnut Avenue, Altoona, PA 16601 or to the Special Olympics of Blair County or Central.
