William H. “Bill” Donnelly, Sr., 86, Altoona, passed away Saturday evening at his home.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Harold A. and Marian F. (Sandrus) Donnelly. He first married Dolores J. “Mickey” Ray on December 6, 1947 in Altoona. She preceded him in death on September 29, 2000. He was second married to Nina M. Gilbert Lansberry on October 27, 1961 in Altoona. She preceded him in death on November 28, 1989. He later married Audrey D. Webb on May 22, 1997 in Cumberland, MD. She preceded him in death on June 6, 2012.
He is survived by a son, William H. Donnelly, Jr. and husband, Phillip M. Rhone of Hollidaysburg; four step-children: Derwin Gilbert of Altoona, George Gilbert and wife Marti of Martinsburg, Irene Garman and husband Paul of Altoona, and Timothy Gilbert of Lewistown; 25 step-grandchildren; 36 step-great grandchildren; 15 step-great great grandchildren; and two brothers: Francis L. and Gerald W. both of Altoona.
He was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Betty Litz Sullivan; two step-sons: William Gilbert and Phillip L. “Lenny” Gilbert; and two step-grandsons: Richard L. White and John C. Litz; and two brothers: Charles E. and David B. Donnelly.
Bill served in the U.S. Navy for five years before being drafted into the U.S. Army where he served as a Private First Class in Korea.
He retired after 34 years of service as a driver for Motor Freight Express and was a member of Teamsters Union Local #110. After retirement, he spent an additional few years driving for Hall’s Motor Transit and Blair Senior Services.
Bill was a member of the Altoona Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He enjoyed cooking, helping his family and friends any way possible, and most importantly spending time with his son and family and reminiscing about the good ole’ days.
Friends will be received Friday, November 18, 2016 from 10 until the 1 p.m. funeral service at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Altoona. Interment at Blair Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors.
