David A. Holland, 87, Altoona, passed away late Friday evening at UPMC Altoona.
He was born in Altoona, a son of the late George Raymond and Mary Catherine (Angermieir) Holland. On November 15, 1951, he married Virginia L. Winslow in Winchester, VA.
In addition to his wife of 65 years, he is survived by two daughters: Virginia Lanora Johnson of Altoona and Brenda Leigh Tolksdorf of Savanna, GA; three grandchildren: Justin (Jen) Johnson of MA, David Johnson (Amy) of NC, and Mara Alexandra Tolksdorf of Savanna, GA; three great granddaughters: Greer and Stella Johnson of NC and Arabella Johnson of VA; a great grandson, Nico Zavala of VA; a sister, Joan Carnevale; and several nieces and nephews.
David graduated from Penn State University, Altoona, with an associate degree in Business Management. He retired from A&P Stores where he worked as a Receiver of Goods and Shipper to stores after 32 years of service. He then became self-employed as owner and operator of Holland Manor for 23 years.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Church. He was a former Superintendent of Sunday School at First Lutheran Church where he also served on the church council as a past president. He was also a member of Hiram Lodge F & AM #616, 32nd degree in Blue Lodge, Legion of Honor, Captain of Jaffa Color Guard, Jaffa Jesters, Past Potentate of Jaffa Shrine, 1999. He especially loved his dogs.
David served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict as a hospital corpsman. He also served as officer in charge of Navy Seabees for 10 years and retired after 37 years of service as an E9. In 1984, he was also officer in charge of the Mobile Construction Battalion – 21.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, December 12, 2016 at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Altoona, 16601. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at Sacred Heart Church, 511 20th Street, Altoona, 16602. Interment at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
