John "Jack" C. Schwabenbauer

April 14, 1948 — January 2, 2017

John C. Schwabenbauer, “Jack”, 68, Altoona, passed away late Monday evening at his home.

He was born in St. Mary’s, a son of the late John and Ad (Moser) Schwabenbauer. On September 15, 1985 he married Sandra Hewitt.

In addition to his wife of 32 and a half years, he is survived by four children: Bradley Pike (Misti) of Hollidaysburg, Lori Provost (Sam) of Norfolk, VA, Andrea Hammel (Jason) of Altoona, and Adam Schwabenbauer (Jesica) of Virginia Beach, VA: 15 grandchildren: Alex (Katrina), Mavrick, Meghan (Stephen), Nick, Kerrigan, Drew, Elisabet, Laura, AJ, Noelle, Nathan, Jacob, Jayden, Haley, and Brooklyn; his beloved dog, Duke; and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Karl Schwabenbauer.

Jack loved the outdoors, he was most comfortable in waders and camo. Intricate and beautiful, tying flies became an artful obsession. The Pennsylvania woods were not only his love, but his passion. He was a member and president of the Juniata Gap Sportsman's Association, a member of First Lutheran Church and a member of the Bavarian Aid Society. Gardening in small areas was also uniquely defined by his engineering mind as he grew thousands of vegetables in tiny spaces. He fed neighbors and his entire family from these amazing gardens year after year. He still found plenty of time to share with his wife Sandy as they enjoyed spending time with each other at the movies, flea markets, the Outer Banks, with their friends, children and grandchildren. His grandchildren were the light of his life, attending their activities and sporting events made him beam with pride. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers, Penn State Football and Pittsburgh Pirates fan. Jack was a co-owner of Peterman's Florist, Inc. for 25 years and had a successful career in Engineering. He was a U.S. Army Veteran.

Friends will be received Friday, January 6, 2017 from 2 until the 4 p.m. funeral service at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Altoona, 16601 with Rev. Dr. Barry R. Folmar officiating.
