Franklin D. Shannon

April 6, 1930 — January 22, 2017

Franklin D. Shannon, “Duck”, 86, Altoona, passed away early Sunday morning at HealthSouth.
 
Born in Altoona, a son of the late Joshua and Clara (Yanson) Shannon. On October 22, 1956 he married Vergie Wilt in Altoona.
 
He is survived by three children: Rick L. and wife Kimberly Dawn of Altoona, Michael J. and wife Carylen of Lake, Michigan, and Cindy L. Barr and husband Rick of Sinking Valley; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; a sister, Phyllis Nemic of Altoona; and two brothers: James of Altoona, and Thomas of Philadelphia.
 
He was preceded in death by a son, David; a daughter, Kandace; and two sisters: Rosella Stevens and Virginia Shannon.
 
Duck was a graduate of Altoona High School and retired from the Logan Township Highway Department as an equipment operator.
 
He served on the Logan Township Police Force and was a member of the Juniata VFW Fort Apache. He was an avid game hunter and enjoyed fishing.
 
Duck served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
 
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., Juniata, and from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service on Thursday, January 26, 2017. Interment at Fairview Cemetery.
