Wayne E. Blackie, Sr., 70, Altoona, passed away Thursday evening at his home.
He was born in Altoona, a son of the late George and Hilda (Berkstead) Blackie. On June 4, 1965 he married Beverly L. Thomas, from Bellwood.
In addition to his wife of 52 years, he is survived by a son, Wayne, Jr. and wife Connie Sue, of Altoona and a daughter, Christine Sue Mekins and husband Brady, of Altoona; four grandchildren: Bryanna Shaffer and husband Alex, Alyssa Blackie, Brady and Sean Mekins; and four brothers: Robert of Altoona, John of Glendale, and Allen and Kenny, both of Sinking Valley.
He was preceded in death by three sisters: Annamae Baird, Evelyn Holland, and Rose Updike; and five brothers: George, Paul, Harry, Marvin, and Steven Blackie.
Wayne was a member of the Fourth Street Church of God and the Heidelberg Country Club. He enjoyed woodworking and riding motorcycles.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 6, 2017 at 4 p.m. at the Fourth Street Church of God, 2010 4th Street, Altoona, 16601. Pastor Jon Neely officiating. Interment will be made at Asbury Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Fourth Street Church of God.
