Helen M. Wolfe

Helen M. Wolfe, 87, Altoona, passed away peacefully early Monday morning at the Presbyterian Village at Hollidaysburg. She was born in Juniata, a daughter of the late Jesse L. and Mary E. (Drexler) Hippo and was the final surviving sibling of her immediate family. On December 24, 1947, she married Ralph Edwin Wolfe, Jr. He preceded her in death on February 16, 2002. Helen is survived by four children: Jessie R. Michaels (Charles, Jr.) of Altoona, Diana M. Barroner (Philip) of Williamsburg, R.A. Wayne Wolfe of Hollidaysburg, and Bryan V. Wolfe (Kathy) of Altoona; seven grandchildren: C. R. Michaels, III (Lori), Jason S. Michaels (Lynn), Veronica Barroner (Ben), Alicia Meadows (Jeff), Joshua Wolfe (Lauren), Olivia Hite (Ryan), and Michael Barroner (Kim); 14 great grandchildren: Scotlyn, Eva, Kaitlyn, Jeffrey, Ethan, Sadie, Abigail, Issac, Maggie, Everett, Brandon, Breanne, Jeremy, and Dylan; four great-great grandchildren: Chase, Paisley, Harley, and Braxton; two sister-in-laws: Shirley (Mountain) Hippo of Altoona and Joanne (Day) Hippo of Florida; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by a son, Ronald E. Wolfe; a grandchild, Jeanie Barroner Salyards; five siblings: Edith May Hippo, Shirley Jean (Hippo) Bookhamer, Ernest L. Hippo, Kenneth D. Hippo and Charles Wayne Hippo, Sr; a sister-in-law, Alberta (Winters) Hippo; and a brother-in-law, Thomas Bookhamer. Helen was a 1947 graduate of Altoona High School and also studied drafting at the Altoona Vo-Tech. Her career started at Gable’s Department Store, then Sylvania Electric. She retired in 1979. She loved to travel to the beach with friends, was a talented seamstress, an avid bowler, golfer, and Penn State Football fan. She loved working construction projects for the home, watching game shows, and spending special times with children and grandchildren. She served as a Lieutenant Volunteer for the Sea Cadets, and helped transport children to the Shriners Hospitals. She was a member of Juniata United Methodist Church and Jobel Court #10. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Altoona and from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service on Thursday, July 13, 2017. Pastor T. R. Hardic officiating. Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park Cemetery, Antis Township.
