George Isaiah Hughes, Jr., “Bud”, 67, Altoona, went to be with the Lord on Thursday morning at his home.
He was born in Altoona, a son of the late George I., Sr. and Joyce (Burley) Hughes.
He is survived by a daughter, Jodie Eckenrode of Harrisburg; a son, Jason Hughes of East Freedom; three grandchildren: Dylan and Chase Eckenrode and Ally Hughes; seven siblings: Darlene Arthurs (Gary) of Lexington, KY, Judy Williams of Altoona, with whom he resided, Skip Hughes (Pam) of Altoona, Cheryl Plunket of Altoona, Rusty Hughes of Tyrone, Jeff Hughes of Altoona, and Mindy Billetdeaux of Altoona; and numerous nieces and nephews.
George served in the U.S. Army for 19 years. He served two tours in Vietnam and was a member of the 101st Airborne Division.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting, giving to numerous charities, and loved to read.
Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, September 24, 2017 at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Juniata where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 25th. Interment will be made at Asbury Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
