James E. Settlemyer

July 10, 1957 — October 19, 2017

James E. Settlemyer, 60, Brockport, PA, formerly of Altoona, passed away Thursday at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA.

He was born in Altoona, a son of the late Robert Settlemyer and Sarah (Geist) Settlemyer-Hockenberry. On October 5, 1979, he married Carrie Ann Brothers in Altoona.

In addition to his loving wife of 38 years, he is survived by two sons: Brandon Settlemyer and wife Rickilou and Dakota Settlemyer; a daughter, Tiffany Brawley and husband Bryant; four grandchildren: Allie, Dylen, Derick, and Chelsee; good friends: Joe Tilson, Dave Pattie, Jim Pattie, Dave Harris, and Mark Dejaiffe; mother-in-law, Charlotte Brothers; two brother-in-laws: Damien Brothers and John Hmel; a sister-in-law, Amanda (Doug) Brown; and loving companion, his dog, Coopy. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, friends, and many children that he took in as his own.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia (Settlemyer) Hmel; two brothers: Dale and Robert “Bud”; a sister-in-law, Suzanne (Brothers) Vincent; a nephew, Zachary Gallagher, and many aunts, uncles, and a step-father, Roy Hockenberry.

James enjoyed spending time with his family and friends; especially loved his time with his beloved granddaughter, Allie, who always brightened his days. He also enjoyed trips camping and to Myrtle Beach.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, October 23, 2017 at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Altoona, and from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service on Tuesday, October 24, 2017.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Dakota Settlemyer, for future college expenses
