Lila P. Winder, 86, of Juniata, went home to live with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Sunday evening.
She was born in Wallis Run, Lycoming County, a daughter of the late Samuel A. and Edna (Watts) Long. She married Rev. Dr. Stanton G. Winder, June 4, 1949, in Picture Rocks, PA. He went home to be with the Lord on December 13, 1998.
Surviving are two daughters, Klea Creighton (Larry), of Terrace Park, OH, and D. Ruth Kenepp (Dennis), of Altoona; two sons, Stanton, Jr. (Sue), of Charleston, SC, and Timothy D. (Brenda), of Altoona; 9 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Winder graduated from Hughesville High School in 1949; attended Lycoming College; graduated from Manahath College with a B.S. in Christian Education and also a M.S. in Christian Education. She did additional graduate work at The Pennsylvania State University and the University of Pittsburgh.
She taught elementary school in the Altoona Area School District and had also taught at Manahath College. She retired from Service Master in 1996 as Division Manager of the Commercial Division after almost 20 years’ service.
Mrs. Winder was a member of Altoona Bible Church. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, February 1, 2018, and from 10 a.m. to the 11 a.m. Funeral Service Friday, February 2, 2018, at Altoona Bible Church. Interment will be made at Alto Reste Park Cemetery.
