James F. “Jim” Baum, 83, Altoona, passed away Tuesday morning at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home.
He was born in Cresson, a son of the late Fred and Catherine Baum. On September 21, 1963, he married Carol A. Westbrook at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Cresson, PA. She preceded him in death on June 22, 2014.
He is survived by three sons: Mark and wife Kimberly of Ormond Beach, FL, Alan and wife Christina of Orlando, FL, and Terry and wife Tammy of Jersey Shore, PA; five grandchildren—Mark, Kristin, Drew, Tyler, and Alexis; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, John “Jack” Baum of Cresson.
Jim served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958 with 13 months in Korea.
Music was his passion in life. He was an accomplished accordion player, and together with his wife Carol they played as a local band called “Little Calvin and the Rookies.” He enjoyed musically entertaining people for over 50 years.
He was a member of the Frohsinn, Bavarian Club, VFW, Unter Uns, St. Stanislaus Kostka Society, and Blair County Motorcycle Touring Club. He also enjoyed traveling, especially by motorcycle, having toured all 50 states on his motorcycle.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 2, 2018 and from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service on Saturday, February 3 at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Juniata. Pastor John Phillips officiating. Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park Cemetery, Antis Township.
