Jack W. Grimm
September 27, 1923 — February 13, 2018
Jack W. Grimm, 94, Altoona, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday afternoon after a brief illness.
He was born in Altoona, a son of the late William E. and Marian Pearl (Dodson) Grimm. On May 10, 1947 he married Doris M. Holland in Virginia.
In addition to his wife, Doris, of 70 years, he is survived by four children: Dawn Sue Remtema (Arnie) of Colorado Springs, CO, Rex Grimm (Linda) of Altoona, LuAnn Bollenbach (Bill) of Coatesville, PA, and John Grimm (Peg) of Moscow, PA; 11 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
Jack was a 1943 graduate of Altoona High School. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII with the 1896th Engineer Aviation Battalion. His decorations and citations include the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with two bronze stars and the Philippines Liberation Ribbon with one bronze star and the WWII Victory Medal.
He retired from Bell Telephone in 1984 after 38 years of service. He attended Calvary Baptist Church and enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan.
Friends will be received from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, February 18, 2018 and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, February 19, 2018, at Calvary Baptist Church, 810 Ruskin Drive, Altoona, 16602. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday with military honors. Pastor Larry Weaver, officiating. Interment will be made at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery, Altoona.
