Byron P. Murphy, Sr., 79, Altoona, went to be with the Lord Wednesday at Maybrook Hills Nursing Facility.Known as “Murph”, he was born in Altoona, a son of the late William C. and Susan Pearl (Walter) Murphy. On March 3, 1967, he married Carol L. Ferguson in Winchester, VA. She preceded him in death on June 14, 2015.Surviving are two sons: B. Paul Murphy, Jr., of Phoenix, AZ, Dale C. Murphy of Altoona and a daughter, Kari R. Murphy, of Altoona, three grandchildren: Ryan of Altoona and Sean and Maura of Mesa, AZ; and one sister, Barbara L. (Ernest) Papinchak of Johnstown.He was preceded in death by two brothers: his twin brother, Bryan, and James E.Murph was a 1957 graduate of Altoona High School and worked numerous jobs until his health could no longer sustain him. His most recent employment was with Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., where he worked as an associate from February 1997 until he retired in 2015.He attended the Pleasant Valley Assembly of God and was a member and Past Master of Logan Lodge #490 F. & A. M., Williamsport Consistory, Tall Cedars of Lebanon,and Jaffa Shrine. Byron’s love for hunting and fishing was evident to all who knew him.Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, February 27, 2018 and from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Funeral Service, Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., Juniata, Pastor James Balzano officiating. Interment will be made at Grandview Cemetery, Altoona.
