Maxine C. Ross, 84, Altoona, died Monday afternoon at UPMC Altoona. She was born in Altoona, a daughter of the late William M. and Linnie (Moyer) Ross.
Surviving is her brother, Ronald LeRoy Yeager (Sally) of Altoona, and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Wilma Jean Ross and Marian E. “Betsy” Ross, one brother William “Dick” Ross, nephew William Robert Ross, niece Brenda Yeager and her pet poodle “Buffy”.
Maxine was a life member of Asbury United Methodist Church where she served as Sunday School Secretary, Financial Secretary and organist. She graduated from Altoona High School in 1951, received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Juniata College in 1959 and her Masters of Education Degree from Penn State in 1962.
During her career, she worked at various Logan Township Schools, the Altoona Area School District and the Hollidaysburg Area School District, retiring in 1989 after 30 years in teaching.
She was a lifetime member of the National Education Association and the Pennsylvania State Education Association and a member of the Homers Gap Civics and Creative Hands of Asbury United Methodist Church. She loved music and reading and was an avid Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Sunday, April 22, 2018, and from 10 AM until the 11 AM funeral service Monday, April 23, at Mauk and Yates Funeral Home, Inc., with Pastor Vance Hart and Rev. Carol Gathagan, officiating. Interment at Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Asbury United Methodist Church.
