David C. Gainvors, 61, Marion, Iowa, died October 30, 2017, at St. Lukes Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Amile and Florence (Samuels) Gainvors. He married Rosemary H. Helsel February 14, 1974 in Altoona.
Surviving is his wife Rosemary; one son David Gainvors, II, of Iowa, a daughter Christy Gainvors of Alabama, step-daughter Michele Castleberry and her husband Arthur of Virginia, step-son Kenneth Lynch and wife Kathryn of North Carolina, his grandchildren Phillip Castleberry and his wife Tracy, Sarah Lynch Fanning and husband Brian, Brian Lynch, Noah Gainvors, and great-grand children Owen, Kate, and Emma Castleberry, one sister Ramona Patete of South Carolina, one brother Raymond Gainvors of Texas, and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother Jim.
David retired as an instructor in the nuclear power industry after over thirty five years. He was an Altoona High School graduate, and served in the U.S. Navy, where he was trained in nuclear physics. He also is a graduate of Mt. Olive University, earning a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration.
David enjoyed fishing, was an avid Penn State fan, was also an Alabama fan, and especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Friends will be received from 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM memorial service Saturday, June 2, 2018, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc. Inurnment at Antis Cemetery.
