Jo Ann Vocco

Jo Ann Vocco, 76, Altoona, passed peacefully on Thursday, May 10. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Ray E. and Gladys F. (Walters) Gutshall. She married Arthur E. Vocco on June 18, 1983, in Altoona. He preceded her in death on March 18, 2001.

Surviving is her son, Thomas Gutshall, and his wife, Vicki (Walter); 2 grandchildren: Thomas II (Stephanie) and Trent (Anna) of Altoona; 4 great-grandchildren: Bryan (17), Kaylei (9), Liam (3), and Evelyn (2); 2 brothers: Robert Gutshall of Florida and Larry Gutshall of Altoona. Her brother, Ray Gutshall, Jr and twin sister, Patricia Myers preceded her in death.

Jo Ann was a graduate of Altoona High School, class of 1959.  She went to a driving school and received her driver’s license at age 42. She was employed at C-Cor Electronics in Altoona until the company closed. She attended and graduated from South Hills School of Business in 2003.  

After retiring, Jo Ann became a foster grandparent volunteer with the Blair County Senior Services.  She spent the last 4.5 years at Foot of Ten Elementary School in Hollidaysburg as the beloved ‘Grandma Jo Ann’ to the third-grade students. She enjoyed reading novels on her Kindle, crocheting, and shopping.  She especially loved her Diet Pepsi, plain chips, and chocolate.

Services will be held privately, at the convenience of the family; no public services will be held.  Memorial contributions may be given to Central PA Humane Society, 1837 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, PA 16602.
