Samuel Frederick Watson

Samuel Frederick “Fred” Watson, 71, Altoona, died Tuesday at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Russell and Carrie Lang. He married Cecilia Musselman June 27, 1970 in Altoona.

Surviving is his wife Cecilia Musselman, his son Fred Watson (Wendy), his two grandchildren Chris Watson and Kali Watson; four siblings: Kenneth Watson of Johnstown, Linda Highduch of Altoona, Corine Cowan of Norfolk, VA, and Grace Ritchey of Altoona; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings Estella Wise, Marlene Harris, Carol Nagl, Susan Jo Watson, Francis Watson, Jim Lang, and Sondra Boyles.

Fred was a graduate of Altoona High School, and went on to train professionally to operate heavy equipment. He volunteered and served in the U.S. Navy with the Navy Seabees in Viet Nam, and was a member of Juniata VFW Post Fort Apache and the VVA-the Viet Nam Veterans of America. He retired from Altoona Area School District after many years of service in custodial services. He attended Holy Rosary Catholic Church, and enjoyed golf, hunting, and fishing.

Friends will be received from 10:00 AM until the 12:00 Noon memorial service on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., with Pastor Jason Mauk, officiating.
Military honors will be rendered by the US Navy and the Blair County Veterans Honor Guard.
