Leslie R. Brooks, 84, Altoona, passed away Saturday morning at the Presbyterian Village in Hollidaysburg. He was born in Allport, son of the late Charles and Alice Almeda (Baumgardner) Brooks. He married Harriett M. Reeseman of Altoona.
Surviving is his loving wife of almost 66 years; four daughters: Joey-Kathleen (Ken) of Altoona, Deborah (Rob) Harten of Glenn Dale, MD, Beth (Larry) Solensky of Chest Springs, and Amy (Tim) Pheasant of Hollidaysburg; eight grandchildren: Jeremy (Colleen) Beichler, Kendra (Mark) Flinchbaugh, Drew (Jamie) and Aaron Harten, Jamin and Benjamin Solensky, Elle (Edgar) Valazquez and Alyssa Pheasant; four great-grand children: Kayla and Brooke Beichler, Kenton and Jerrin Flinchbaugh and one sibling: John O. Brooks of East Freedom.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Nead, and a brother, Calvin.
Les was a 1952 graduate of Altoona High School and proudly served in the U.S. Navy, aboard the U.S.S. Macon. He retired in 1997 from Holsum Butter-Krust Bakery as a salesman. He was a member of Hillside Community Church in Bellwood, where he previously served as a Small Group Leader, mission treasurer, and cooked for various church banquets. Over the years, he enjoyed playing basketball, softball, and bowling in church leagues with his friends.
Les enjoyed spending time with his family, especially attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 5-7 PM Tuesday, December 4, 2018, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc. A funeral service will be held for Les at 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at Hillside Community Church, Bellwood, with Pastor Ken Beichler, officiating. Interment at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
