Walter W Focht

Walter W. Focht, 90, Altoona, passed away Sunday afternoon at UPMC Altoona.  He was born in Yellow Springs, a son of the late David W. and Flora Mae (Woomer) Focht. On November 7, 1945, he married Janet L. Sinclair in Maryland. She preceded him in death on May 11, 2018.   Surviving are three children: Ken W. Focht, Sr., and wife Marlene of Altoona, Don W. Focht and wife Karen of Altoona, Karen L. Maher and husband Rich of Altoona; two daughter-in-law’s: Kris Focht and Cyndi Lovas; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.   He was preceded in death by two sons: Alan W. Focht in 2005 and infant, Steven E. Focht; four sisters and eight brothers.

Before his recent illness, Walter was working for the Altoona Mirror in customer service as well as Fisher Auto Parts. He had previously worked at McMahon’s Dairy, Morrison Cove Dairy, Reed Tobacco, and Blatchford Furniture Company.   Walter was a member of the Trans4mation Church, formerly, Pleasant Valley Assembly of God, where he was active for many years serving on the church board, and also driving in the bus ministry of the church. He was proud to have finished his GED at age 60.

He enjoyed attending the Lighthouse men’s ministry, horses and animals, and hunting. He was a member of the Bellwood Beagle Club, and the Horse Club.   Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 6, 2018, and from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Friday, December 7, 2018, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Altoona, PA  16601, with the Rev. James Balzano officiating. Interment will be made at Asbury Cemetery, Altoona. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Trans4mation Church Building fund, 1001 S. 1st Street, Altoona, PA, 16602, or to the Home Nursing Agency-Hospice unit, 20 Sheraton Drive, Altoona, PA, 16601.
