Rachel Petrone
June 25, 1934 — February 1, 2019
Rachel Petrone, age 84, Altoona, passed from her earthly home into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Friday, February 1, 2019, following a brief illness.She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Louis and Clara (Valentino) Rago. She married William Petrone on March 4, 1961, in Philadelphia. He preceded her in death on January 12, 2002.
Surviving are a son David Petrone of Hollidaysburg; a daughter Susan and husband Michael Rocci II of Danville; two grandchildren: Michael Rocci III of Philadelphia and Matthew Rocci, a student at Penn State, University Park; three brothers: Dominick Rago (late Rose Marie Rago), John and wife Carole Rago, and Michael and wife Annette Rago, all of Altoona; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a life-long friend Donna Jean Funicelli.
Rachel was a 1952 graduate of Altoona High School and previously served on the reunion committee. Upon graduation, she lived in Philadelphia where she worked for Curtis Publishing Company and then for the United States Treasury Department (U.S. Mint). She lived in the same home in Juniata for the past 50 years.
Rachel was a woman of profound faith who enjoyed watching Christian programming, listening to praise and worship music, and reading faith-based books. Throughout her life, she wrote numerous poems inspired by world events that deeply touched her heart. She was an avid fan of Penn State football. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, particularly her grandsons whom she was extremely close and adored. Rachel was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who at many times was the go-to person for counsel and prayer. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no public viewing. A private service will be held at Mauk and Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 North Fourth Avenue, Altoona. Interment at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood. Online condolences and memories may be expressed at www.maukandyates.com.
