Alfred D "Al" Knorr

March 22, 1945 — March 12, 2019

Alfred D. “Al” Knorr, 73, Altoona, passed away early Tuesday morning at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Lower Reese, son of the late Alfred M. and Leah Slusser Knorr. He married Patricia L. Rabenstein September 24, 1966, in Altoona.

Surviving is his wife Patricia, his five children: Dana Giger (Cory), Kami Graham (Pat Bilek), David Knorr, Michael Knorr (Sarah), April Knorr; his grandchildren Christian and Gabriel Graham, Caleb and Jonas Knorr, and Chase and Callie Giger; his sister Dorothy Crissman, his sister in law Nancy Hoover (William), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Lucille Rodkey, Betty Hershey, Elsie Amico, Evelyn Grace, Chester Knorr, Donald Knorr, Monroe Knorr, and Kenneth Knorr, as well as his father and mother in law Myrle and Frances Rabenstein.

Al was a 1964 graduate of Hollidaysburg Area High School, and a 1979 engineering graduate of Penn State University. He retired from F. L. Smithe Machine Company as an Industrial Engineer, and also had served in both the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Army Reserves.

Al was an active member of Juniata United Methodist Church, and over the years served as the chairman of the Trustee Board, served on the administrative board and the council of ministries, and had been the longest serving van driver at the Otterbein and Juniata United Methodist Churches. He enjoyed playing softball for the church’s softball team, and also enjoyed bowling in various leagues. He had coached and refereed AYSO soccer, worked part time as a van driver for Skills of Central PA and for Blair County Community Action. He was a lifetime member of the Bavarian Aid Society.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Thursday, March 14, 2019, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc. and from 10 until the 11 AM funeral service Friday, March 15, at Juniata United Methodist Church. Interment at Blair Memorial Park.
